Sequencing the present to reconstruct the past

Lecture given at the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS). We talked about ancestral sequence reconstruction and ancestral population genomics. An introduction to likelihood calculation and phy logenetic models of sequence evolution is also provided.

When recombination was understood (a bioinformatics tale)

Presentation held for the International Max-Planck Institute Research School Ph-D students retreat in Hirschberg (Austria). The presentation starts with a historical introduction to Bioinformatics. Then I presented the storry of the PRDM9 gene and recombination hotspots in Mammals, as an illustration of integration of bioinformatics with molecular biology.
